I have been practicing dentistry in Kamloops since my graduation from UBC in
1974. I have worked very closely for years with an in-office ceramist which
picqued my interest in aesthetics and cosmetic procedures. My understanding
of the technical aspects of porcelain and ceramics lead me to spend more and
more time in this aspect of dentistry.
Twelve years ago, I committed himself to "Adult Restorative Dentistry"
and chose to no longer treat children. Since Dr. Doern has joined our practice
as an associate we are once again treating children and this enables us to provide
a full complement of dental procedures. Aesthetics, adult restorative including:
Whitening, veneers, crowns, root canals, bridges, implants and dentures as well
as children and all aspects of preventative care are included in our service.
I think that the best way for you to get to know me is to listen to my response
to a question that I get asked on a daily basis, "Why would anyone want
to become a dentist?" To be honest, it certainly wasn't a lifelong plan
for me; I didn't even consider it until my final year at the University College
of the Cariboo. It was at that time, that I learned that dentistry wasn't simply
about looking into people's mouths all day, everyday. Dentistry is about meeting
new people on a daily basis and building relationships with them that can last
a lifetime. It is a profession that is driven by academic knowledge but requires
an artistic perspective. Dentistry has a lot of shortcomings in its past to
overcome. It seems that everyone has had a bad dental experience in their life;
most seem to arise from a lack of communication and understanding. I believe
that it is equally important for a dentist to be a compassionate listener, as
it is to have strong technical skills. It is with the above thoughts in mind
that I practice dentistry.
I look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Darryl.
